A corn tortilla, please, hold the cow eyes.

Taco Bell is opening some of their fast-food restaurants in Mexico. But as you might expect, there are some cultural differences that have to be worked out.

For example,

“The company’s branding strategy – “Taco Bell is something else” – is an attempt to distance itself from any comparison to Mexico’s beloved taquerias, which sell traditional corn tortillas stuffed with an endless variety of fillings, from spicy beef to corn fungus and cow eyes.”

(I want to know who the first person was that looked at a cow’s eye and thought “food.”)

The company believes they will be successful, but not everyone is convinced. To some Mexicans, a beautiful taco is in the eye of the beholder. When shown what Taco Bell plans to dish up, one potential customer said “They’re very ugly.”
